Read an indirect little recommendation, "The Bone Shard Daughter" by Andrea Stewart, first book in The Drowning Empire series. A refreshing new piece of fantasy.

About the Book: A strange land, an empire once ravaged by war with powerful, yet now seemingly gone, people. But the fear of their return lingers and so the ancient emperor keeps the tradition of a festival where all the children of the empire must give to its safety: a shard of their skull. With those shards and bone magic constructs are made, to protect, to serve, for the threat remains. And yet... The price is not as small as it seems.

My Opinion: A unique weaving of story line web. Reading it you'd notice an event, an echo of one, and realize you've witnessed it first hand from another character's perspective. Thus successfully dulling the lines between heroes and those merely deluded, believing their actions to be good. Well written, easy to read and follow, with not too long and/or dull internal character monologues.

Not bad, a 5 out of 5.
